GEPC 2016 General Meeting in Budapest, in June

The European Mushroom Growers Group held its General Meeting on the 10th and 11th of June, 2016, in Budapest. It was attended by the Belgian, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Polish and Spanish delegations.

On the first day, the attendants visited mushroom growing and compost facilities.

The General Meeting took place on the second day. The delegations addressed several topics such as mushroom production, European markets, international flows, free-trade agreements, promotion, phytosanitary products, MRL, Commodity Expert Groups, etc.

Most of the delegations presented stable markets and production. Several countries noticed the increasing demand for local, organic, brown or sliced mushrooms. Many of them also denounced the pressure from the big distribution chains and the numerous promotional offers. The East of Poland is still strongly affected by the Russian ban, and the production has been reduced.

In Ireland, the mushroom growers are waiting to see the effects of the Brexit.
